A different adventure: Conversational English Tutor

As my situation has changed and I need a short-term solution to supplement my income. I have been grabbing shifts at near-by Starbucks Cafes to increase my hours for a few weeks. While it is great to meet new people and glean insights and strategies to offer the highest standard of customer service, it is exhausting to have to re-calibrate and re-integrate during every shift. It has been an invaluable experience, but it is only sustainable for a few weeks.

I was talking with friends yesterday, and they mentioned that with my extensive vocabulary and manipulation of the English language, that I should start tutoring people in Conversational English. My love for cultures, meeting people and talking seem to be strong assets to someone who is new to Canada, or to English. I know that while intensely and intentionally learning French over the first 14 years of my education, I was never very good at contributing to a casual conversation; it's just not something you can teach in a group or force people to do.

So after some research, I have constructed and posted this article, on Craigslist.com or Kjiji - with information about myself and what I can do to help individuals converse in English.

Do you need help conversing in English with friends, at school or at work - because you have difficulty being understood? I am an 11th generation Canadian, University graduate who has travelled around the world because I love to engage with people through language and culture. I have spent many years learning languages and love to help others to communicate clearly their ideas. I am also sensitive to the challenges that people face as they engage in a new culture.

I am a very persistent, patient, and gracious teacher who will help you to reach your highest potential. I am respectful and professional and I will support you in your learning. I have many years experience teaching children and students in personal growth and academic success.

How I can help you:

I am offering one-on-one English conversation coaching sessions for individuals who are new to Canada, children or students who need help elevating their english speaking skills. I will help you through difficulties or questions that you have, and provide materials or practical experiences that will help you develop your use of the English language. I can also provide assistance with reading, writing, grammar, pronunciation, or vocabulary. You will gain confidence and a better understanding about the appropriate use of English in difference situations.

I conduct my coaching sessions in public settings, in the President Kennedy and McGill College area, but am flexible to meet near any of the metro stops between Lionel-Groulx and Beri-UQAM.

Take the opportunity to have individualized coaching that you cannot get in a group environment. In the past, I have helped Japanese, Korean, Russian, Brazilian, Columbian, and Haitian friends with their conversational and written English.
