Remembering the body of Christ in servanthood

I am excitedly arranging my house as I prepare to host two ministry groups his weekend. I am reminded that we are all part of the greater body of Christ and given different talents and resources to use wisely. Sometimes the hand might feel over-used and the kidney under-appreciated, but each has a purpose and the pleasure of serving the king.

I don't pretend to possess the wisdom of God as I determine ministry needs and delegate roles, but often have the advantage of seeing the bigger picture and how these roles bless the community!

My first ministry event is the Nursery Helpers Social on Friday night. This ministry was borne out of church need and parent's pleas. The little ones grow so quickly, and the kids who were the first to christen this ministry are now in elementary school! There are ebbs and flows to the baby population at Grace Montreal Church, but a pretty steady flow has hit since 2010! Stuck in the back room, furthest from the action, it is easy to wonder what's the purpose to holding a crying baby. But this is a time when the Love of God is really impressed on their little lives and they need connection to others and patience from us!

Since our ministry requirements only allow people to serve on a once-a-month basis in pairs, it's easy to feel disconnected and alone. For this reason we spent time getting to know each other better. I decided that there was no better way to do this than over a fondue, and it turned out so good!

As often as we gather to pray and discuss ministry, the teachers of GMCKidz always leave refreshed and wondering how soon we can do it again. So to that end, the second ministry event this weekend is a Teacher's Meeting. Whilst we always benefit from getting to know each other and doing a short devotional, the highlight of these meetings is discussing strategy and giving input for the age-specific lessons. These volunteers fair through many seasons and are more familiar with each other, so we are more transparent and frank with one another.

In the fall, there was an AWANA/CEF Children's Ministry training which I have attended for the past 7 years. My first year I did the Preschool Track, because all of my kids were under 6! Now more than ever, I have been encouraging my teachers to join in this blessing and gain insights and strategies for reaching the kids! This Sunday afternoon, we will be looking at Gospel Presentations which we have learned and can use to share the truth in an engaging manner!

I am praying about which devotional to use for our time together, as we learn to lean on Christ in everything, especially ministry. John 15:1-10 about abiding in the vine was taught at the Children's Ministry Conference, and this is good. I'm just considering something I heard today, and might tie it in :)

I love to lead this group, whilst learning so much myself! I am so thankful to God for His Ministry to the kids and remember that he has sustained it for His glory even when I felt weak and uncertain. I am so blessed.

Rebecca
